Kiss of the Dragon: Starring Jet Li, Bridget Fonda and Tcheky Karyo. Rated MA. Action. Action. Action. And then just a little bit more action thrown in for good measure. When martial arts legend Jet Li teams up with the maker of the brilliant The Professional (Jean Reno) in an action film made in France (with only token deference to Hollywood), you know you are in for something good. The action (have I mentioned the action yet?) comes thick and fast. In fact to describe it succinctly, it is "full on bloodlust from start to finish - intense." Liu Jiuan (Li) is China's top cop. A man with no personal ties, totally dedicated to his job and trained in every martial art from Kung Fu to acupuncture. Sent to France to assist French police in a sensitive international case, Liu is cast into a lair as lethal as any dragon's nest - an army of bent cops. Heading this army is Inspector Richard (Karyo), a cop bent beyond belief, with the full backing of his government -- and a small army. When Liu falls foul of the bent Frenchman and his cronies, all hell breaks loose - and that's in the first 10 minutes. From there it's a fight to the death for self-preservation. Liu accidentally gets involved with Jessica (Fonda), a prostitute and sole witness to Richard's murderous ways. Together they contrive to bring the arrogant frog down. Have I mentioned the action yet? Fonda did little to enhance this movie and, I felt, was quite superfluous to the plot. But if the damsel-in-distress-type character was required, then I would much rather watch a French beauty than a token Yank. Watch it for the action, though. Did I mention the action already?
