IN 2065 Earth is a dark and desolate planet inhabited by alien invaders of grotesque proportions. What's left of the human race is holed up in isolated barrier cities, protected from the alien hoards by an ethereal energy shield.
Searching the planet - and her dreams - for clues to the salvation of Earth, Dr Aki Ross is running a deadly race against time. Herself infected by an alien, she must first find and then unite eight spirit waves, the combined energy of which she hopes will counter the power of the alien invaders.
The power of this movie, as most of you will know, is in its cutting-edge animation. It is quite breathtaking.
As always, though, I have just one little gripe. Having gone to such technological lengths to visually replace human actors, why not go the whole hog. Why do we need a galaxy of famous voices to articulate the dialogue?
Having said that, I can only say that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and was swept away in the total fantasy of it all.
An accurate description of the genre escaped me for a while. Apart from the obvious sci-fi tag, there was more to it. And then it hit me - the
proliferation of Japanese names in the credits list. The only things missing were the huge eyes.
This movie is total indulgence. Allow yourself to be swept away and you will not be disappointed.
